Upstream returned HTTP 2xx within the fetch timeout.

Degraded

Upstream returned a non-2xx response, or at least one component is unknown.

Outage

Fetch threw a network error — endpoint is unreachable.

Unknown

Result is stale (>2 min) or was never sampled.

Overall state: Outage if any component is in outage · Degraded if any component is degraded/unknown · Operational otherwise. Observation window: real-time probe on each page load or manual refresh.

Machine-readable endpoint: /api/status returns this data as JSON. Suitable for smoke tests and external monitors. No secrets, internal topology, or user data are exposed.
